Scaplens Court Wedding of Fae & Bernie

I’m always happy when a couple enquires about a Scaplens Court wedding – a museum might not be an obvious choice for a wedding venue in Dorset, but a Scaplen’s Court wedding is filled with character and gorgeous light through the medieval windows, and is an astonishingly private wedding venue right in the heart of the historic Poole Quay. I just love to photograph there – and of course a short stroll through the quirky backstreets brings you to the quayside, and all it’s photo opps at sunset!
Below is a real wedding story of a recent Scaplen’s Court wedding – it’s Fae & Bernie’s big day.

A new venue for me, a Scaplens Court Wedding – and what a little treasure in the heart of Poole quay it is! A beautiful merchant’s house dating back to the 1300’s with a stunning walled garden, an oasis in the concrete jungle, tucked right behind it. The perfect venue for Fae and Bernie’s wedding.

Starting in the morning at Hotel Du Vin (formerly the Mansion House), just round the corner from Scalpen’s Court, I joined Fae for her wedding preparations.

Popping back and forth between the two venues to catch the set up at Scaplen’s Court, and also meet up with Bernie and his crew before the ceremony, it was a nice and gentle atmosphere on a lovely warm autumnal day.

Eventually time for Fae to head out and walk the few minutes to Scaplen’s Court to join Bernie upstairs in the hall for the marriage ceremony.

Once husband and wife, Fae, Bernie and everyone else headed back downstairs to the interior courtyard to grab a drink and wander out into the lovely green space that is the walled garden.

Entertained by a close up magician, everyone enjoyed the lovely warm weather, chatting, drinking and eating canapes in the peaceful garden.

After a while Fae, Bernie and I took a chance to slip away and take a little wander through the ancient, quaint & quirky back streets of Poole Quay and to the water front itself to grab a few personal pictures. Then back to Scaplen’s Court and time to head back upstairs for the Wedding Breakfast.

As the sun set and the night sky drew in, evening guests started to arrive, everyone (now back in the garden) started to draw back indoors to the hall upstairs which had been turned around again for the evening reception.

Time for Fae and Bernie to take to the dance floor for the first dance. My time to leave.

Another perfect day.
