Smedmore House Wedding of Georgina & Dan

Honestly – I love a Smedmore House wedding. It’s just one of my absolute favourite wedding venues in Dorset, set right on the coast above one of my personal favourite places in the whole of Dorset – Kimmeridge Bay. The house is warm and welcoming with amazing light and astonishing views, the ability to have outdoor ceremonies overlooking the sea is very special, and having a marquee on the main lawn adds an extra fun element to any country house wedding. Did I mention the sea views?!
Below is a real wedding story of a recent Smedmore House wedding – it’s Dan & Georgina’s big day.

Last Saturday on a warm but slightly overcast day, I took a meander down to the Jurassic coast near Kimmeridge Bay for the Smedmore House wedding of Georgina and Dan. I have to say, I was really llooking forward to this one. I LOVE working a Smedmore House wedding!

On arrival, the marquee was buzzing with busy florists, catering staff and a few family and friends putting the finishing touches to decorations and other arrangements. I made may way into the main house and upstairs to find Georgina and the girls enjoying the usual wedding morning rituals and getting ready of course.

Meanwhile, outside, Dan and his merry men rocked up sometime later in a fab silver classic E-type Jag, and guests started to arrive and make their way down the tree lined avenue toward the sea – the outdoors ceremony would take place overlooking the sea.

Eventually with everyone in place, it was time for Georgina and her entourage to make her way down the avenue to find Dan, and for the lovely, touching and humourous ceremony to take place. Once married Dan and Georgina led the procession back towards the house, guests with chairs in hand (without which they would have nothing to sit on in the marquee!) to the walled garden for the drinks reception. Dan and Georgina popped into the main house to have the official legals taken care of and then exited out into the walled garden through a confetti tunnel to join the celebrations with family and friends.

A few family formals taken care of and much proseco et al also taken care of, it was time to head out of the walled garden to the marquee for the speeches and the wedding breakfast. To be honest I don’t know who got roasted more, Dan by his best men or the Hog for dinner!

After dinner Georgina Dan and I slipped away down to Kimmeridge bay for a little peace and quiet and a few romantic pictures. By this time the sun had really come out and it was beautiful down by the sea with a gentle breeze wafting over us whilst we took a gentle wander, bathed in glorious golden sunshine.

Back to Smedmore and the marquee, and time for Georgina and Dan to throw a few moves on the dance floor, before being joined it seemed by pretty much everyone else attending the wedding. My time to leave, and I left a very happy and rowdy crowd to dance the night away to the fab band rocking their thing.

Congratulations Georgina and Dan, it was a fabulous day.
