I’m always happy when a couple enquires about a Lytchett Matravers wedding – St Mary’s is a beautiful, quintessentially English village church set just outside the village amidst the rolling Dorset fields. And of course there’s a huge choice of wedding venues for the reception within a stones’ throw of the village.
Below is a real wedding story of a recent Lytchett Matravers wedding – it’s Cillian & Robert’s big day.

Last week was a very traditional English Village Lytchett Matravers Wedding – although it was split between two different villages!
I started the day with Gillian and the girls at the house; I have to admit I always love the typical wedding-morning chaotic atmosphere surrounding a bride; flowers and people and breakfasts and ironing and hair and make-up.
The ceremony itself was just up the road at the tiny St Mary’s Church in Lytchett Matravers. Gillian and Robert had decorated the typically stark church interior with streams of white bunting, creating a pretty atmosphere which tied beautifully with the wedding colours of white and softest pink and apricot.
Gillian arrived in a gorgeous Alvis (which I admit I really wanted a ride in), and looked stunning in her elegant Justin Alexander gown.
After the ceremony the couple danced their way down the aisle in celebration – and then hosted Tea and Cakes at the church, to share the wedding with all those who would not be joining them immediately at the reception venue. It was a lovely way to break up the day, and there was an almost village fete atmosphere as everyone chatted and mingled with cups of tea and sweet treats from the trestle tables.
Eventually we moved on, but I took a detour with Gillian and Robert via the National Trust’s White Mill in Sturminster Marshall for a few quiet photographs by the bridge, and time for the couple to take some moments for themselves before we headed on to Morden Village Hall to meet up with the guests for the reception.
The weather wasn’t as kind as it could have been, but there was no rain, and the grey skies didn’t stop everyone enjoying the grounds of the hall before finding their seats inside. The village hall was prettily strung with white fairy lights, echoing the white bunting arrangements in the church, and the soft touches of colour in the organza bows on the seat covers were echoed in the floral decorations of the cake.
It was a traditionally beautiful and simple wedding, crowded with family and friends enjoying the day together. Congratulations Gillian and Robert!
